Supportive housing in Broward County: find the right starting point

Ask about the program, not only the organization

Broward County's homelessness system includes several kinds of assistance, including shelter, rental help and permanent supportive housing. The county's assessment and referral route differs from contacting a residence about an available room.

Broward Housing Solutions has multiple programs. Its FAQ describes case-manager referrals for some paths, while specifically stating that Broward II does not require a case-management referral before enrollment. Ask which program applies and follow its current instructions. Do not assume one application rule covers every program.

Henderson also describes several different housing arrangements, including residential treatment, supervised apartments and supportive-housing programs. Similar names do not establish the same staffing, care, payment terms or eligibility. Discuss clinical suitability with the current care team.

A quoted percentage of income, a voucher or a funding source belonging to another program does not establish Ocean Breeze's payment arrangements. Confirm the proposed residence and the funding agency's requirements separately.

Starting from another Broward city

City assistance can depend on where a person lives, where a property is located or which authority administers a program. Before moving, ask whether the assistance being discussed can apply to the proposed new arrangement. These are local resource starting points, not additional Ocean Breeze locations.

Hollywood

Hollywood Social Services explains that its Community Development Division connects residents with outside agencies. It also links to housing search and resource-navigation services. Ask for the appropriate current contact; a city resource page is not itself an approval for rental funding or placement.

Dania Beach

Dania Beach Housing Authority administers voucher programs. Existing participants should speak with their own housing authority about a proposed move and the housing provider's participation. Applicants should check the authority's current waiting-list notice before preparing an application.

Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach's housing directory separates rental assistance, housing-authority resources, shelter and transitional housing. Its descriptions include county coordinated-entry routes and exceptions for particular programs. Use the entry for your situation rather than treating every listed provider as a general rental option.

Oakland Park

Oakland Park Social Services links to 211 and other navigation resources. Check each resource's audience: a directory can include adult, disability and older-adult services with different criteria.

Plantation and Davie

Plantation Housing & Grants includes purchase assistance, home repair and foreclosure prevention. Davie Housing and Community Affairs also publishes home repair and purchase programs. Those categories concern different needs from finding a supportive rental residence. Read the program purpose and current application status before investing time in an application.

For keeping work, family visits and outside appointments connected across cities, use the local transportation planner. Check real origins and destinations with the operator; a city name alone cannot establish a workable route.

Make the next conversation specific

  • State whether you need a room, rental assistance, affordable housing, emergency shelter or help identifying a program.
  • Ask whether direct inquiry is enough or whether a referral or assessment is required.
  • Confirm the area served, application status, expected next step and how to follow up.
  • Ask how any required private records should be supplied. Keep them out of an unrelated provider's general contact form.

If you are considering Ocean Breeze specifically, review the actual Fort Lauderdale residence and contact the team about your circumstances and current availability. The housing transition checklist helps organize a confirmed destination and arrival plan.
